Minutes
- President Jim Franklin called the meeting to order at 9:00am
- The Board accepted the resignation of Sean Warren and approved the board membership of Barbara Black,
the first alternate board member. Jim will contact her.
- Update from the April 10th PSNIC Meeting. (Jim Franklin)
- Jim Lundin was elected to the new 2nd Vice President position (Vice Chair for Neighborhood Support).
- David Carden was elected to be Treasurer, the position formerly held by Jim Lundin.
- Discussion of Youth Concerts at Sunrise Park, and the Baristo Neighborhood's objections to them.
- Discussion of the "problem" of the delivery of Friday's Palm Springs Sun. Vista Las Palmas Neighborhood
Organization had delivery stopped for all of their area. People may also stop delivery to their individual
homes, since it has not been raised as an issue here.
- The PSNIC picnic is May 10th. Jim Franklin and Bill Markley volunteered to help with the set up. Jane
Stampe said she might also be available, so we should call her.
- There is another CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training class scheduled for April 24-May 3
(Thur evening and all day Saturday & Sunday). The charge is $30.00. Jim will check into future free
classes. We discussed RHPNO supplementing half the cost for our residents.
- Discussed the proposed Neighborhood Watch Academy proposed by the new Chief of Police.
- The Eco-Friendly Landscape Tour is set for Saturday, April 19th. Registration is 10:00-10:30am at the
Corridor (corner of Palm Canyon and Alejo).
- The Code Enforcement Committee reported there is no progress on the Vacation Rental Ordinance. However,
the Vacation Rental Managers of Palm Springs has a new number to call 24-hours if there is a problem with a
vacation rental. The number is 1-877-4MyNeighbor (1-877-469-6344). This will be put on the website.
- Treasurer's report (Tom Fitzgerald):
We took in $255 from the cocktail party (8 new members @$25.00 plus 11 guests @$5.00).
Currently we have $481.69 in the bank, but still have outstanding expenses for our first mailing.
Nancy is still removing the bank charges monthly.
- Membership Committee report (Paul Zapala):
Currently we have 48 paid members, and 669 addresses listed for our area.
Paul will check in to the breakdown of part-time and full-time residents.
Paul will keep the offical RHPNO list and coordinate with Tom (for dues) and Jim (for mailings).
Everyone should update Paul if they have info regarding specific addresses or if they know of someone who
is not receiving our mail.
- Organizational Task Force update (Bill Markley):
Have been meeting on how to grow and sustain neighborhood organizations.
Regarding participation from the neighborhood, 20% active participation (join committees, actively help out, etc.)
and 40% minimal participation (pay dues, attend socials) is considered successful. 40% will have nothing to do
with us.
70% of the people who do not become involved state their reason as "not knowing the people".
- Social Event: Will plan on another social/membership drive event for Saturday, June 7th, 7pm-9pm. Want
to have things in place by our next meeting (May 10th). Jim & Bill will work on the flyer.
- Organizational Name Change: There are no overwhelming reasons not to change the name, and Paul feels that
a lot of people are interested in this issue.
We will have a formal yes/no vote (paper ballot, sign-off on list) at the June 7th social. If they vote "yes"
to change the name, they can offer suggestions for a new name on the ballot.
If the "yes" votes win, we can vote at the December annual meeting on a new name.
- Next meeting: Saturday, May 10th, 9:00am @ the Clubhouse (1091 Paseo El Mirador).
- The meeting was adjourned at 10:00am.
